With ISPA’s support, the San Antonio City Council unanimously passed an ordinance Ā to regulate the sale of used and renovated mattresses. The ordinance requires sellers of used or renovated mattresses to register with the city, disclose that their products are used and sanitize them prior to sale. ISPA supported the Council’s efforts to enact the ordinance, particularly in light of the Texas Legislature’s decision to repeal the state’s bedding law earlier this year.

New Jersey Alters Bedding Law
New Jersey passed legislation which adds new requirements for used mattresses to the stateās bedding law. ThisĀ requires used mattresses that are leased to be encased in a bagĀ and thatĀ a yellow label be attached to any used mattresses. Previously, label color was not specified in the law. The legislation is now awaiting signature by Governor Chris Christie.
We will watch to see when this bill is signed into law and theĀ date it is to be effective by.
NC Renewals Due 02/28/15
If you do not renew your North Carolina license by 2/28Ā your status is changed to āUnlicensed Operationā. This means that as retail and other stores are inspected over the course of this year, products (URNs) that are not currently licensed will be pulled from sales and placed under an āOff Saleā order. NC is also duty-bound to inform retailers and other stores of distribution of the productās noncompliance and āOff Saleā status. Products can only be returned to the sales when the licensing process is completed. You then must complete an Unlicensed Operation Application and submit $720.00, along with other required documentation.
